Robert Barić, PhD, has been employed as an associate professor at the Faculty of Political Science, University of Zagreb (area of international relations and international security) since February 2019. He completed his undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral studies at the Faculty of Political Science. Between 1993 and 2019, he was a member of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Croatia, holding the rank of colonel. His last duty in the Croatian Armed Forces was as a member of the Center for Security and Defence Studies and a lecturer at the Croatian Military Academy Franjo Tuđman (courses on military history, defense management, international relations, and geopolitics). Between 2010 and 2011, he was a lecturer at the War School of the Croatian Armed Forces. From January to October 2011, he was an analytics advisor to the Minister of Defense, Davor Božinović. From November 2011 to September 2015, he was a member of the Croatian Military Representation to NATO and the EU in Brussels (staff officer for defense cooperation with the EU).
Before these duties, he was an assistant advisor for defense in the Office of the President of Croatia. During the two terms of President Stjepan Mesić (2000-2010), he was involved in major programs related to the Croatian defense reform processes and Croatian preparations for NATO membership.
His main areas of professional interest are related to the European security architecture, the issue of military transformation, and the crisis management process (emergency management).
